چکیده

A Monte Carlo study of the mean-square radius of gyration R 2 g and scattering function P(k) with k the magnitude of the scattering vector for semiflexible ring polymers of the trefoil knot was conducted by the use of the discrete version of the Kratky–Porod (KP) wormlike ring model. The behavior of R 2 g and P(k) as functions of the reduced contour length λL, defined as the total contour length L divided by the stiffness parameter λ−1, is clarified. A comparison is made of the results for the KP ring of the trefoil knot with those for the KP ring of the trivial knot and for the phantom KP ring without the topological constraints.

Gyration radius of a circular polymer under a topological constraint with excluded volume.

It is nontrivial whether the average size of a ring polymer should become smaller or larger under a topological constraint. Making use of some knot invariants, we numerically evaluate the mean-square radius of gyration for ring polymers having a fixed knot type, where the ring polymers are given by self-avoiding polygons consisting of freely jointed hard cylinders. We obtain plots of the gyrati...

Scattering functions of knotted ring polymers.

We discuss the scattering function of a Gaussian random polygon with N nodes under a given topological constraint through simulation. We evaluate the form factor PK(q) of a Gaussian polygon of N = 200 having a fixed knot K for some different knots such as the trivial, trefoil, and figure-eight knots. Here the Gaussian polygons with different knots K have distinct values of the mean-square radiu...

Statistical and Dynamical Properties of Topological Polymers with Graphs and Ring Polymers with Knots

We review recent theoretical studies on the statistical and dynamical properties of polymers with nontrivial structures in chemical connectivity and those of polymers with a nontrivial topology, such as knotted ring polymers in solution. We call polymers with nontrivial structures in chemical connectivity expressed by graphs “topological polymers”. Graphs with no loop have only trivial topology...

Self-Assembly of Block Copolymers: Theoretical Models and Mathematical Challenges

Recently, topological effects of ring polymers have attracted much attention in various fields of science such as physics, biology and chemistry. DNA knots, knots in proteins, and synthetic ring polymers have been extensively studied not only theoretically but also experimentally. Interestingly, their mesoscopic or macroscopic properties may depend on their topology. The topology of a ring poly...

Under - Knotted and over - Knotted Polymers : 1 . Unrestricted Loops

We present computer simulations to examine probability distributions of gyration radius for the no-thickness closed polymers of N straight segments of equal length. We are particularly interested in the conditional distributions when the topology of the loop is quenched to be a certain knot K. The dependence of probability distribution on length, N , as well as topological state K are the prima...
